What is the apprenticeship levy?

The Apprenticeship Levy is a fund given by the government to employers to encourage apprenticeship recruitment and to improve training and existing skills within workforces.

The levy is only payable to employers who pay an annual amount of £3 mil-lion through payroll, or have over one hundred employees. It is given to employers at a rate of 0.5 per cent of their payroll and is to be used on apprenticeship funding and training through a recognised training provider.

Why should I use the Levy?

• You can decide what skills would be beneficial to your business develop-ment and the apprentice employee you employ.
• Up-skilling your current workforce (click through to Upskill your Staff), for example, enrolling an administrator on a Level 4 Business Administration course to improve their skills in the role, or even to give a current employee the opportunity to complete a Leadership and Management course to set them up for promotion within your company.
• Many university graduates with existing skills are looking for apprentice-ships to gain experience, their transferrable skills could be beneficial to your business.
