The thought of attending an Interview can be an unnerving experience especially for a young person, as it is an unfamiliar environment with new people. Rejection from a job role you were hoping for is always disappointing and the way people handle rejection can differ. The purpose of this article is to give insight on how we ensure learners attend apprenticeships interviews with 360 Apprenticeships.
Explain to the candidate why the role is a fantastic opportunity;
At 360 Apprenticeships it is important for us to find the right match between the candidate and employer. We work with fantastic companies and employers, and it’s our responsibility to show the candidate why the role is right. Researching the company is essential as it gives us a better idea on why the candidate is the right fit. This will ultimately increase the chances of the candidate attending the interview. They should start to feel positive about the role and willing to take the next steps in their career. Here we have outlined the positives of doing an apprenticeship and why we think Apprenticeships are a great choice for young people.
Keep the communication going;
The time from when a candidate applies for a role up to their interview is crucial. In this time the candidate could apply for different jobs, be unsure on whether they want the role or attend the interview. It’s therefore paramount to communicate with the candidate reminding them why this job is right for them.
Communication is key when dealing with young people. They may have only attended a couple of interviews in their life or none at all. In their view, the easier option is to not venture out of their comfort zone, meeting new people with the risk of failure. However, communicating via call/text or email in the lead up to the interview, is effective in seeing how the candidate is feeling. This gives them the opportunity to raise any queries or concerns with us prior to going. It is also a final opportunity for us to prepare them as thoroughly as possible with any final tips or techniques.
Interview Confirmation Email;
Once we have confirmed with the candidate that we have got them an interview, we send them our Interview Confirmation Email. This includes all the details for the interview and as much description as possible. Our emails state:
- Interview date and time
- Location
- Links to the companies website and job description
- Links and information to help the prepare for their interview
We assist the candidate as much as possible prior to the interview, ensuring they plan their journey thoroughly. Sending transport links, a map and street view of exactly where the company is located is very effective as it is much clearer. We also send links for relevant websites which offer interview tips and techniques. We include inbound links to our blogs and pages all about interview preparation, with some outbounds links as well.
Here is a link to our Interview Preparation main page which gives an overview of how to best prepare for an interview. We have also created sector specific pages. So when attending an interview in a specific sector, we give the best advice possible. For example, Here is a link to our Digital Marketing Interview Preparation Page. we outline possible questions that may be asked during interviews, the best way to answer them, how to look presentable and more. We also set tasks for the candidate to ensure they perform as well as possible in the interview.
